Dale Co, AL – Willie Earl Jones Killed in Tragic Pedestrian Crash on Hwy 27

Dale Co, AL (December 27, 2024) – A tragic pedestrian crash occurred Thursday night on Highway 27 near Ozark when a pedestrian was hit by a car. The incident, reported by the Dale County Coroner’s Office, took place around 8:30 p.m., leaving the local community in mourning.

According to Dale County Coroner John Cawley, the victim, 73-year-old Willie Earl Jones of Ozark, was hit while walking along the highway. Emergency responders, including paramedics and local law enforcement, were quickly dispatched to the scene after the collision was reported. After a brief search, Jones was found and pronounced dead at the scene. His body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for further examination.

Police took control of traffic on the busy highway while emergency crews worked to secure the area. Firefighters provided additional support to ensure safety during the investigation. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is currently investigating the circumstances of the crash.
