Flat Rock, AL – Lila F Lay Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Hwy 71

Flat Rock, AL (February 19, 2024) – Authorities confirmed that 77-year-old Lila F. Lay lost her life as a result of a crash that took place in Jackson County on Friday afternoon, February 16. Authorities were called to the scene of the accident at approximately 250 p.m.

According to reports provided by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck was involved in a collision with a 2007 Ford Expedition on Highway 71 near mile marker 23. The incident prompted authorities to close down the roadway while assisting. Lay was severely injured as a result of the crash. She was airlifted by helicopter and flown to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The police confirmed that she was pronounced deceased the next day. No other injuries were reported. The collision is currently being investigated.
