Lanett, AL – Eric Minix Loses Life in Crash on I-85

Lanett, AL (January 5, 2024) – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirmed that Deputy Sheriff Eric Minix lost his life as a result of an automobile accident that occurred late Wednesday evening, January 3. At around 11:55 p.m., authorities out of Chambers County were called to the scene of an accident on Interstate 85.

Reports provided by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency indicate that 25-year-old Decedric Donson was driving a stolen 2022 Dodge Challenger on the interstate during the evening hours. A pursuit, starting in Coweta County, continued across multiple counties before crossing state lines. After entering Alabama, the police set up stop sticks that were able to stop the vehicle successfully.

The officer out of Georgia who was pursuing the vehicle, identified as Deputy Sheriff Eric Minix, exited his vehicle will and began to give commands to Donaldson when a Lanett, Alabama Police Department cruiser struck him. Minix was severely hurt in the crash. He was rushed to Alabama Medical Center-Lanier in Valley, where he succumbed to his injuries. At this time, the incident is being investigated.
