Madison Co, AL (February 10, 2025) – A fatal bicycle crash occurred on Sunday, February 9, in Madison County, resulting in the death of a local cyclist. The accident, confirmed by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), took place at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Balch Road near Moore Street in Madison.

According to ALEA officials, 37-year-old Samuel M. Riley was riding his bicycle when he was hit by a 2024 Jeep Wrangler driven by a 41-year-old Madison man. Emergency responders, including paramedics and Madison County Fire & Rescue, arrived at the scene to provide aid. Riley was transported to Huntsville Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities temporarily closed Balch Rd to investigate the crash and manage traffic flow. The Madison Police Department and ALEA are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the collision.
