Marion Co., AL – Two Killed in Bicycle Crash on US-278 near Hamilton

Marion Co., AL (June 10, 2024) – A motor vehicle accident reported just one mile east of Hamilton claimed the lives of two people. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency responded to the scene of the accident at around 1:00 p.m. on June 7.

According to police reports, a 54-year-old from Virginia was riding a bicycle on US Highway 278. As the bicyclist, identified as Carl Blewett, proceeded forward, he was struck by a GMC Sierra. The pickup truck then went off the roadway and collided with a tree before catching on fire. The bicyclist and the driver of the SUV, identified as 61-year-old Caroll Parker, were both fatally injured. The two victims were pronounced deceased at the scene. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division is currently investigating the accident.
