Mobile Co, AL - Kenneth Barker Killed in Tractor-Trailer Crash on I-10

Mobile County, AL (Sept 20, 2024) – A fatal tractor-trailer crash occurred on Interstate 10, claiming the life of a Louisiana man on Wednesday morning. The incident involved three tractor-trailers and took place near the 1-mile marker, approximately 13 miles west of Mobile.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the accident happened around 9:35 a.m. when 30-year-old Kenneth L. Barker of Franklinton, LA, was driving a 2023 Peterbilt tractor-trailer. Barker’s vehicle collided with a 2016 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by 54-year-old Gerardo Muniz of Alamo, TX. Following the initial collision, the Kenworth struck the rear of a 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer operated by 34-year-old Arsen Kolzlovskyi of Chicago, IL.

Emergency services arrived quickly at the scene to control traffic and provide assistance. Firefighters were instrumental in extricating the vehicles involved in the crash, while ambulances transported the injured drivers to local hospitals for treatment. Unfortunately, Kenneth Barker sustained serious injuries and was taken to University Hospital in Mobile, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The drivers of the other two trucks were also hospitalized, though their conditions have not been disclosed.

ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident. Authorities have urged all drivers to exercise caution while traveling on highways, particularly when operating large vehicles.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim.

Tractor-Trailer Accidents in Mobile County: What You Need to Know

Tractor-trailer accidents have become an alarming trend in Mobile County, reflecting broader concerns about highway safety. In recent years, Alabama has seen a significant increase in the number of fatal crashes involving commercial vehicles. According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, there were over 1,000 reported accidents involving large trucks in the state last year, with a disturbing 200 resulting in fatalities. This uptick underscores the critical need for enhanced safety measures and driver awareness, particularly on busy highways like Interstate 10.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlights that large trucks are involved in about 12% of all fatal traffic accidents in the United States. Factors contributing to these tragic incidents include driver fatigue, speeding, and adverse weather conditions. As Mobile County continues to grow, so does the volume of commercial traffic, increasing the likelihood of severe accidents. Local authorities and safety advocates are calling for stricter regulations and better training for drivers to mitigate these risks.

For those involved in a truck accident, understanding your legal options is crucial. If you suffered injuries due to the accident and another party is at fault, you may be eligible to file a personal injury claim to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. An experienced personal injury attorney can guide you through the legal process, negotiate with insurance companies on your behalf, and help ensure you receive the compensation you deserve for your injuries and losses. As the community grapples with the impact of these tragic accidents, seeking legal guidance can be a vital step toward recovery and justice.
