Fatal Auto Accidents in Alabama

In 2023, a total of 31,717 motor vehicle accidents took place in Alabama. Out of these accidents, more than 11,000 people were injured, while over 560 ended up passing away from the injuries they suffered. Unfortunately, many of the accidents reported in our state are completely preventable. Some key factors contributing to fatal crashes in Alabama include:

  • Failure to yield right of way: Not yielding when necessary can lead to collisions.

  • Tailgating: Following too closely behind another vehicle can lead to dangerous collisions.

  • Aggressive driving: Engaging in hostile driving actions can heighten risks on the road.

  • Running red lights or stop signs: Disregarding traffic signals poses a substantial risk of accidents.

  • Speeding: Exceeding speed limits escalates the likelihood of severe crashes.

  • Drunk driving: Operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol is a major cause of fatal accidents.

  • Fatigue or drowsy driving: Driving while fatigued can impair judgment and reaction times.

  • Distracted driving: Diverting attention from the road due to distractions can result in accidents.

  • Reckless driving: Careless and aggressive driving behaviors contribute to roadway dangers.
