Opelika, AL – Fatal Crash on Marvyn Pkwy Results in Child’s Death

Opelika, AL (February 28, 2025) – A devastating head-on collision happened Friday afternoon, February 28, leading to the death of one child and leaving another in critical condition. The incident, reported by the Opelika Police Department, occurred around 5:23 p.m. in the 3500 block of Marvyn Parkway.


According to police officials, the crash involved two cars– a Kia K5 and a GMC Acadia. The Kia, carrying two adults and two children, collided head-on with the GMC Acadia. Sadly, one child was declared dead at the scene, while the other was airlifted to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham for urgent medical treatment.


The driver and a passenger in the Kia were taken by ambulance to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in Georgia with injuries that were not life-threatening. The driver of the GMC Acadia and a juvenile passenger were also transported to a local hospital via a personal vehicle for treatment.


The Opelika Fire Department responded to the scene to assist with the vehicle extrication, while the police managed traffic and controlled the area as the investigation took place. The incident is under investigation by the Opelika Police Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit, with authorities working to determine the cause of the crash.
